My name is Brooke Manning and I am a graduate from The Ontario College Of Art and Design, where I studied Photography. Though my practice includes photo-based work, it is certainly not limited to it. I currently publish a quarterly magazine called OLD Quarterly and I am also a very active musician performing under the name Loom. My album will be released by Nevado Records in June.
I am drawn to the type of practice in which one can include strangers and loved ones alike. I try not to see barriers within human connection. Two years ago I completed a year long project entitled The Soul Project. This was a collaborative effort where I posted numerous ads via social networking sites and Craigslist, asking anyone interested to lend me their contained soul to me for a year. I received 17 vessels and during this time. I cared for them daily, acting out the owners requests, aiding to their soul’s specific needs. Similarly, OLD Quarterly believes in supporting and indulging every naked mind unconditionally. It includes various work by artistically inclined outsiders spanning the globe. Each issue is topical and there are no restrictions to how the submitting artist interprets that topic.
Naturally, I feel as though this project is a great fit for me and my urning to reach into the depths of an individuals mind. I work at synchronicity daily. I would love to be a part of this effort, and already have ideas brewing.
