Sculpting New Reads is the inaugural installation art program of The Word On The Street Toronto. This new visual arts program, curated by Labspace Studio, brings together Canadian artists and authors to explore how books can inspire new ways of thinking, creating, and innovating.
Five local artists have been paired with books released in 2014. Each artist has been challenged to create an art installation inspired by the themes of their book, applying their own unique practice to the creative process.
Books vary from non-fiction to horror to political history to psychological thriller and the exhibition is as diverse as the books themselves. Large-scale installations (sculpture, video, projections, etc) will be on display for the duration of the festival in the Sculpting New Reads tent (for one day only!).
